Accessibility

This site has been built to be compliant with the standards set down by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Some of the accessibility features include;

  • The site and navigation are laid out in a consistent way throughout.
  • The current page is highlighted in the navigation bar.
  • An alternate "high contrast" style sheet is available if you are using Firefox
  • The site can be fully navigated by the keyboard (using the "tab" and "Return" keys).
  • A consistent san-serif font is used throughout the site.
  • Text on the page can be resized through the browser
  • "alt" tags are used on all images for text readers and text only browsers.
  • All links displayed within text content areas are underlined.
  • A Separate style sheet (which removes the header and navigation) is used for printing.
  • There are no dead links on the site.
  • The site has been designed so it can be viewed at 800 * 600 without having to use horizontal scroll bars.

For the site to be compliant, the following standards have been implemented;

  • The site is written in validated strict XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.0.
  • Tables are only used to display data, and contain a summary.
  • All HTML tags have corresponding close tags (and are in lowercase).
  • Style sheets (CSS) are used to control all layout.
